Trauma to Triumph-June is PTSD Awareness Month

June is Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month! Living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can feel like an invisible battle, PTSD is often an invisible battle that individuals experience, one that affects the mind, body, and soul. It is a mental health condition that can develop in individuals who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. PTSD can occur after various types of traumatic experiences, such as military combat, witnessing or experiencing violence, natural disasters, physical or sexual assault, accidents, or serious injuries. Symptoms may include:

  • Intrusive thoughts or flashbacks

  • Avoidance behavior

  • Negative changes in thoughts and mood

  • Hyperarousal or increased reactivity

By understanding the nature of PTSD, seeking appropriate treatment, and practicing self-care, individuals can find their path to healing and reclaim their lives.
