A Father Protects… What To Think About This Father’s Day

“A father protects. It's what gives him meaning.”- Jake Sully, Avatar, The Way of Water.

If you haven’t seen the new Avatar yet, this is the most memorable line in the movie, at least in my opinion. It is incredibly important for Fathers to understand their roles as their children’s protectors, but it is also just as important for them to model positive physical health, as well as, positive mental health.

Let me say it again, not only is physical health important, but also a father’s mental health. Fathers of multiple small children, for example, may live day-to-day under a high amount of stress with the noise and having to be on high alert to protect their children from the likelihood of them hurting themselves. Or Fathers who are the primary breadwinners of the family may endure work and financial stresses. These are all common things, DADS you are not alone. Eventually, this state of stress begins to take a toll on any individual. Children witnessing their fathers taking an active role in self-love and self-care will more than likely, eventually learn to prioritize self-love and self-care in their own lives.

Give yourself a break DADS you’re doing great! We are here for you, and can help you learn some stress-reducing skills that you can apply during the harder times!

Have a Happy Father’s Day!
